Commemorating 251st Anniversary of Mon Kingdom Hongsawatoi Fallen Day
Fort Wayne, Indiana
May 26, 2008
MRC-Fort Wayne commemorated the 251st Anniversary of the Falling Day of Mon Kingdom Hongsawatoi and Holocaust Memorial Day of Mon People on May 26, 2008 at Mon Buddhist Temple in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 1757, Burman ruler U Aung Zeya invaded Mon kingdom Hongsawatoi and killed thousands of innocent Mons including over 3000 of Buddhist monks. In order to remember and honor those victims, MRC-Fort Wayne held a memorial service at Mon Buddist Temple in Fort Wayne by offering foods to Buddhist monks and by holding a moment of silence. After the service, about 130 of MRC members staged a demonstration in downtown Fort Wayne. On this tragic day, overseas Mon organizations also issued a join-statement to call on Burmese military regime to end human rights abuses in Monland and other ethnic nationalities' areas and call on the UNSC to use coercive force if it is necessary to help cyclone's victims in Burma.
