A huge of old Mon palm leaves found in Thailand

MUL

There are thousands of bundles of old Mon palm leaves stored in the
museum of Wat Kongkaram in Ratchburi, 100 km west of Bangkok. Most of the
texts written on these palm leaves are in plain Mon language and but some
are in Pali in Mon words. They are about Suttanta, Abidhamma, Vinaya of
Budha and also found many bundles related to lay people such as Thammasart
(code of law), Lokasithi, Lokaparsar, Lokaniti and so on. History of Mon is
found about the king of Hongsawatoi such as Rajathirat, Dhammachedi and
Phaya-Dala. Hundreds of litary works and poems of old Mon, traditional
medical science and astropology were also found there. These palm leaf
scriptures were written around 230 years ago at the beginning of founding
Bangkok.
Today no one of that local community including the monk of Wat Kongkaram
can read Mon. Mon literary work exploration is a project of Education
Ministry. Nai Sunthorn is accompanied by the team from National Library to
read Mon palm leaves there. Now all the bundles are divided in sections put
names and numbers.
