For the first time about
a thousand people in Mudon Township, Mon
State marked the Hongsawatoi fallen day. In the evening they lit candles in
Kyaik-zel pagoda to mourn for Mon people who were killed when the Mon kingdom
was invaded, said a Kamarwet resident.
Mon Literacy and Culture
Association and Mon youth groups from eleven villages in Mudon
Township joined in wearing Mon traditional uniform on the platform of the
Kyaik-zel pagoda, said a youth leader. The Mon youth people had already
finished praying in their village before they arrived in Kyaik-zel.
Remembrance by lighting
candles at pagodas in Burma this year was
not only held in Mudon Township, Mon State, some young Mon went to the old
kingdom of Mon in Kyait Mut Toa (Shwe Maw Daw pagoda), Pegu and Ye Townsip as
well.
Mourning by lighting
candles in pagodas was done in every place where Mon people live, including
Mon migrant workers in Samutsakorn, Sangkhlaburi,
Thailand and Three Pagoda Pass on the Thai-Burma border town.
