A GUN CLASH BETWEEN MON
ARMED GROUP IN HALOCKHANI

A gun clash between Mon armed groups were occurred in
Halockhani areas on Sunday, a local source said. The
clash suddenly happened after Mon National Liberation
Army (MNLA) and Monland Restoration Army (MRA) met
coincidentally in the Halockhani areas on Sunday
night.
Local source said 'soldiers of the Monland Restoration
Army enter into Halockhani camp with their own purpose
where it is under the control of New Mon State Party.
The party has requested to new splinter group to avoid
patrolling its controlled areas.
A local woman said 'we cannot sleep well for many
nights because we scare an another clash in the camp'
a woman who visited to Sangkhlaburi said on Wednesday.
The source confirmed that there is no injury in the
gun clash but the New Mon State Party warned the new
splinter Mon armed group to not interfere in its
control area. There is no response from the Monland
Restoration Army to the warning.
The new Mon armed group split from the New Mon State
Party on September 9, 2002 after an internal problem,
but the splinter group claims their split is for the
national interests.

CHILDREN UNDER AGE 10 WORK AT BRICK FACTORY

Children under age ten are working at the brick
factory in Moulmein city, the capital of Mon State, a
local source said. Many children under age 16 both
male and female are working at the brick factory.
A local source confirmed that LIB No 525 / 545 of the
Burmese army operates this factory with joint
cooperation of private firm.
Children under ten earns only Kyat 150.00 = only US $
25 cent per day. Children above age ten earn Kyat
200.00 and women earn kyat 300.00 per day while men
earn Kyat 400.00 per day at the same factory.
Workers must finish their duty in removing for 3000
bricks from the ground to the stock place to earn this
amount money, a local source confirmed.
The factory is located between the center of Moulmein
and Capital Electricity Station. The station is in
near to the highway to Pa Ann, Karen State.
