Mon Literacy Training Award Ceremony
On November 9,2008, Education Committee of MRC (Fort Wayne) held Mon literacy award ceremony at Mon Temple, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The ceremony was opened by singing Mon national Anthem and saluting Mon comrades who have scarified their lives for Mon cause, and Nai Chan Nai, the chair of the Education Committee thanked to teachers and parents for their times and supports to make the Mon literacy training program happen. Then, the ceremony awarded certificates to the students who completed their classes. Finally, the Education Committee held speech contests among the students. Mi Soe Soe, a contestant said that every Mon has a duty to maintain Mon literature. This year Mon literacy training class started at the beginning of the Summer and ended October 26, 2008. About 75 students registered the training. MRC has been offering Mon literacy training every Summer at Mon Temple in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Although Mon people have been freely to teach and learn their language and literatures in the United States, learning and teaching Mon literature have been banned in Burma.
