Mon literacy campaign (U.S.A)

In order to preserve Mon literature and Buddhist culture among the oversea
Mon community of America, Monland Restoration Council (MRC) works hard to
provide the need of the Mon community. MRC is offering Mon and Buddhist literature
classes at the Mon Buddhist Temple of Fort Wayne, Indiana on every Saturday and Sunday from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. The classes were started on June 10, 2002. During the classes’ sessions,
there were 20 minutes break times. During the break time, food and drink are offered to the student. A playground is also provided to the students to play and relax during the break.

So far, there have been seventy two (72) students registered. Fifty young student are registered to study Mon and Buddhist literatures and twenty adults are registered to study Basic English and Mon traditional Buddhist culture and literature.

The Mon literature class has divided into four grades: Basic class (A) and (B), grade one, grade two, and grade three. Basic class A and B are for young children and beginner. Than grade one, grade two, and grade Three are for students who have already had some Mon literatures training. These classes are offered every Saturday. Likewise, the Buddhist culture class is also divided into four classes. These classes are offered every Sunday.

The Buddhist class comprises the history of Buddhism and its philosophy that
goes back to the 6 century BC in India and distinguishes the subject matter of Buddhism and Hinduism at the early age of Buddhism in India. The class also provides the clear fact of Buddhism in Monland during the time of Suwannabumi (Golden Land) period as well as Buddhism flourishing in Ramannyadesa from the 3rd century BC to present date. All classes are conducted in Mon and English medium for all students who are interesting in both Mon and Buddhist literatures.
The classes will be offered for hundred and twenty hours (120 hours). The Examination will also be conducted by the mid of November 2002.To run the Mon and Buddhist cultural classes financial support is significantly needed. Cordial invitation is also extended to all of Mon brothers and sisters around the globe to assist in any kind of your support.

Similarly, Mon literature and Buddhist culture classes were also offered last year. There were 55 students registered for classes. Nai Chan Du Mon was the chairman of the Mon literature and Buddhist culture.
