Prisoner tortured to death in Moulmein

Moulmein, August 26,2000: Captain Win Bo was beaten to death by the head of
the prison in Moulmein. Win Bo, from SDA 26 was arrested in Mandalay in
June, 2000. He was accused for drafting a letter, which was undersigned by
nearly 1000 monks urging the SPDC to hold dialogue with NLD. He was
sentenced for 20 years of imprisonment. His colleagues Moe Kyaw Thu and
wife imprisonment 10 years each for typing that letter. They were in
In-sein Jail for a period of time, then transferred Win Bo and Moe Kyay Thu
to Moulmein Prison on July 6, 2000 together with Zaw Min Min Lat, the
student activist who is life sentenced. Zaw Min Min Lat was also severely
tortured from In-sein. His body was covered with bruises when he arrived
Moulmein Prison.

The relatives are allowed to see the prisoners 15 minutes on 16th each
month. Now many political prisoners are in Moulmein jail, such as Dr Maung
Maung Kyaw of NLD, age 70, Nai Ngwe Thein, Dr. Min Kyi Win, Dr. Min Soe Lin
of Mon National Democratic Front.
