Thai-Raman (Thai-Mon) Communities Gather to Offer Mon Foods in a Honor of Royal Thai Queen’s 72th Birth Day

Thai-Raman (Thai Mon) communities near Thai capital Bangkok gather to offer Mon foods to the people for five days including showing of Mon Traditions Exhibition stall at Sanam Luang, a public ground in order to honor Royal Thai Queen’s 72th Anniversary Birthday ceremony. 

The food offering to the people started since yesterday near Sanam Luang pagoda, with other Thai organizations from different provinces, Thai universities students and thousands of people arrived and are crowded at the special celebration for Royal Queen H.M. Queen Sirikit according Nai Thai Rat, a Honoring Committee member of Thai-Raman Communities. 

“A lot of people came to join to our Thai-Raman Communities’ honoring stage in name of Thai-Raman Communities’ Booth for Food,” said Mr. Nai Thai Rat. 

“Yesterday, we started offering at 8:30 and all of ours food of about 150 kilos of rice completely took at about 2:00 PM ,” said Mr. Rat 

“Today also a lot of people came to join and I hope our food again will be completely taken at noon time,” he added.

 “Thai-Raman foods and traditions exhibition are great if compare to others and they got the main place near the door entering to Sanam Luang Pagoda and birthday celebration stage,” said Nai Sunthorn a Thai-Raman literature and culture leader who observed and joined the food booth at the Sanam Luang. 

“Every day we, the groups of Thai-Raman communities from different provinces, cook Mon food (rice, curries and some snacks) on a rotating basis for offering to people and yesterday Mon from Bangapi showed how best of their foods,” Nai Sunthorn added. 

“In ours Thai-Raman exhibition, we show Mon foods, Mon traditional materials from different provinces around Thailand and our honoring volunteers are also dressed with Mon traditional clothes to show Thai-Raman strength,” Mr. Rat said. 

“We, about more than five hundreds Thai Raman people from more than ten provinces prepared to join in this honor ceremony of the queen with other Thai people and go around the Sanam Luang for worshiping the queen on August 12,” said Mr. Rat

“On that day, Thai-Raman will also show Mon traditional dance,” Mr. Rat added. 

According to Thai-Raman Queen Birthday Honoring Committee, from various walks of Thai people are going to celebrate a special celebration to honor Queen. And there was no special celebration like this year in the past the committee explained. 

Thai-Mon communities from different provinces joined together and raised fund for honoring to the Queen. Some Mon organizations from Burma also joined with Thai-Mons at the honoring ceremony, according the committee. 

“In my experience, there was no Thai-Mon people joined together and did such a big activity to honor the Queen like this in the past.  The young Thai-Mon generation is very active now,” Nai Sunthorn said. 

Thai-Mon people are deeply respecting on Thai Royal Family, and in June 2004 they also hold their Thai-Raman Tradition Exhibition Show for a month at the National Library, Bangkok , that was officially opened by Thai H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Siridhorn .
