New Mon State Party (NMSP)

New Mon State Party is the largest Mon armed group, which had been fighting  self-determination for Mon people in Burma for many decades. It has reached cease-fire agreement with the Burmese military regime in 1995. However, the cease-fire agreement with Burmese military cause the party split into two groups. In late 2001, a group led by Nai Pan Nyut broke away from the NMSP to resume fight with Burmese military regime. The group claimed that the Burmese military regime doesn't respect the cease-fire agreement.  Mon National Liberation Army is the military wing of NMSP.
