Statement Of The Mon National Democratic Front (Australia)
On The Death Of Nai Ba La
Nai Ba La was one of the central committee members of the Mon National Democratic Front (Burma) and one of the prominent politicians in the Mon community. He was born in (1959) at Kowbain Village, Moulmein, Mon State, Burma. He married Mi Moe Aye and had one child, a son. He was arrested by the Military Regime along with other Mon Political leaders including Nai Tun Thein and Nai Khin Maung in 1993 and was kept in Moulmein jail. He was tortured and beaten so many times and was kept in a dark cell all the time.
After he had suffered mental and physical torture so severely, he became seriously ill. He was not treated properly and was neglected by medical staffs in the jail. When he was seriously ill and his medical condition was out of control, he was released from the jail. After he was released his family took him to Rangoon Aung San Myo (TB) Hospital for treatment but his condition deteriorated and within only a few days in the hospital he died, on 2nd July 1999.
It is very obvious that he died from the illness and traumata he received in the jail. The Mon National Democratic Front (Australia) strongly declares that it is one of the most infamous methods of the military regime to kill politicians systematically in jail away from the public eye. The Mon National Democratic Front (Australia) greatly concerns for the safety of other Mon leaders, Central Committee Member of Mon National Democratic Front (Burma), Nai Tun Thein, Nai Ngwe Thein, Dr. Min Soe Lin and Dr. Min Kyi Win, who are still in the jail. The Mon National Democratic Front (Australia) vehemently urges the human rights groups and democratic forces around the world to condemn the Military Regime of Rangoon and to take immediate strong action against this military regime.
