Statement of Monland Restoration Council (MRC) on the Release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by SPDC May 6, 2002
We, Monland Restoration Council (MRC), U.S based, welcome the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by the ruling State Peace and Development Council (SPDC).
At the same time, we would expect that all other political prisoners, including our Mon leaders, will also be released soon. We would like to express our thanks to Ambassador Razali, the United Nations Special Envoy for Burma, for his endeavor to help bring about the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
We would encourage SPDC to begin a genuine tripartite dialogue between SPDC, National League for Democracy (NLD) and ethnic non-Burman leaders for ultimate democratic changes and national reconciliation in Burma.
