Statement on the arrest of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

1.   We, Monland Restoration Council, strongly condemn the SPDC for the detention of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the recent crackdown on her party.  We are deeply concerned the physical condition of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.  We demand the SPDC immediately release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her party's members and initiate the tripartite dialogue with the NLD and non-Burman ethnic nationalities.

2.   According to witnesses, the SPDC sponsored Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA) and criminals ambushed and attacked Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her teams while they were traveling in Ye-U, upper Burma.  We strongly condemn this unlawful act of the SPDC. We demand the UN to investigate the incident and bring those who are responsible to justices.

3.  The recent incident proves that the regime is neither interested in peaceful political solutions through dialogue, nor willing to give up its power. We call for international community to impose tougher sanctions against the SPDC.
